Rehearsals for the 2025-26 season begin August 17, at 4 pm at St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ashtabula for the Ashtabula County Choral Music Society Chorale. The Fall Concert will be on October 4th at 1pm, location TBA. New (experienced) singers, age 13 and older, are welcome to join the Chorale. There is no audition requirement. ACCMS is partnering with Hubbard House for this concert in conjunction with their Fall Pilgrimage. Andy Pochatko of the Harbor Topky Library is leading the annual educational series and is providing research of the music. The program will be songs of the antislavery movement between 1830-1860. Sally Bradley is the Executive Director for the Hubbard House Museum which preserves the home built by William and Katharine Hubbard about 1841. It served as the northern terminus of the Underground Railroad.
The Underground Railroad was a loose association of people and places providing food, shelter, and clothing for slaves escaping the antebellum South. Hubbard House, once code named Mother’s Hubbard’s Cupboard and The Great Emporium, is listed on the US Department of Interior National Register of Historic Places.
The October 4th concert is one of many events in the coming months for Ashtabula and the nation celebrate the 250Th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. For more information about ACCMS, please visit the website at ashcochoralmusicsociety.org.
